Heartbreaking news as pro hockey player is diagnosed with tumor
Tobias Eder, a professional hockey player from Germany, received devastating news during routine testing ahead of the 2024-25 Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) season.
Like all pro hockey players, Eder underwent routine health checks as his team prepared for the upcoming season. After spending four seasons with Duesseldorf, the 26-year-old forward joined Eisbaren Berlin (Berlin Polar Bears) in 2023-24, winning the DEL championship and representing Germany at the 2024 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
However, upon returning to Berlin for the new season, Eder's routine tests revealed a malignant tumor. Eisbaren Berlin released a statement confirming the diagnosis and expressing their shock and concern.
"In moments like these, the sporting aspect takes a back seat. We are all shocked by Tobi's illness. His news hit everyone at the Eisbären like a blow and they have to process it first. The most important thing from now on is Tobi's full recovery and that he gets well again. That is our top priority. He and his entire family will undoubtedly receive all the support they need from us. We wish them a lot of strength and optimism. We are with them in these difficult times." - Eisbären managing director Thomas Bothstede
