Kelowna Rockets forward Ty Halaburda sustained a head injury Saturday night and is currently hospitalized at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.
He was stretchered off the ice midway through the third period of Game 2 against the Everett Silvertips. He did not return.
Everett's Jaxsin Vaughan caught Halaburda with a hip check as he carried the puck near the blue line.
The hit sent him airborne. He landed chin-first on the ice and didn't get up.
Trainers from both teams were on the ice within seconds.
Halaburda stayed down for several minutes while play was suspended.
Paramedics put a neck brace on him and carefully lifted him onto a stretcher.
Rockets forward Nate Corbet immediately dropped the gloves with Vaughan while the medical staff worked.
Neither team needed context to understand what was happening.
The Rockets confirmed in a second update Saturday that Halaburda is alert and conscious.
He will remain in Everett overnight as specialists continue their evaluation.
Broadcast footage from the arena showed Halaburda crumpled near the boards as staff from both teams moved in—Corbet stripping down to fight just feet away, the stretcher rolling onto the ice while players from both benches watched without moving.
Final WHL season, everything at stake
This is Halaburda's last year in junior hockey.
The 20-year-old overage forward went undrafted by NHL teams but built a case over 283 WHL career games—96 goals and 220 points across five seasons.
He had been to the Vancouver Canucks development camp.
A strong playoff run was how he was going to earn a professional contract. That path just got significantly more complicated.
A head injury changes the timeline.
On the ice, the Rockets fell 4-2 and dropped to 0-2 in the best-of-seven series. Kelowna went 0-for-6 on the power play while Everett converted twice in three power-play chances.
Game 3 is Tuesday at Prospera Place.
The Rockets swept the Kamloops Blazers to open the playoffs and entered the second round with real momentum.
Kelowna is the host city for the 2026 Memorial Cup.
Now they're down 2-0 and without their most experienced forward—who still picked up an assist before the injury ended his night.
For now, hockey is secondary. The organization is focused on Halaburda and waiting on word from the hospital in Everett.
