After being selected 6th overall by the Utah Hockey Club as their first-ever draft pick, Tij Iginla seems hesitant to play for them.
Tij has big shoes to fill in the NHL, being the son of Flames legend Jarome Iginla. While Utah was thrilled to draft him, Tij's recent comments suggest he wished he was picked by the Calgary Flames instead.
One fan reported an interaction with Tij at a store, where Tij expressed his preference for being drafted by Calgary.
"Nahh saw this guy at work told him I wish you got drafted by the flames he said he wished that too"
Last season, Tij Iginla had a breakout year for Kelowna, scoring 47 goals and 37 assists in 64 games, with an impressive +17 rating. These stats indicate he has the potential to be as legendary as his father. Utah was certainly hoping for that, but Tij's sentiments are now raising doubts.
It wasn't meant to be with Tij Iginla and the Calgary Flames.
Are we seeing another Eric Lindros situation, where he refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques after being drafted? Or is this being blown out of proportion? Only time will tell in the coming weeks.
