Last night in Cape Breton during a QMJHL game between the Eagles and the Saint John Sea Dogs, a scary incident occurred. Saint John head coach Travis Crickard collapsed behind the bench during the third period.
Medical staff quickly responded, and the Sea Dogs players cleared the area to allow for treatment. Crickard received medical attention for about 15 minutes while the game was halted. At the time of the incident, the Eagles were leading 6-0 in the third period, but the score became inconsequential as the focus shifted entirely to Crickard's well-being.
Crickard was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital, where he was conscious during transport and remained alert and conversational upon arrival. Fortunately, his vital signs were stable.
The following day, Crickard was discharged from the hospital. He's a 37-year-old coach in his second season with the Sea Dogs and previously served as an assistant coach during the team's Memorial Cup victory in 2021-22.
