In a surprising move, the Chicago Blackhawks have traded veteran defenseman Jack Johnson to the Colorado Avalanche. The deal, which was announced on February 26th, 2023, saw the Blackhawks receive Andreas Englund for the 36-year-old Johnson.

Johnson, who has been in the NHL for over 15 years, has played for several teams throughout his career, including the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He signed with the Blackhawks in the 2022 offseason as a free agent, but struggled to find his footing in Chicago, playing in just 23 games this season.
The Avalanche, on the other hand, have been one of the top teams in the league for the last few years, currently sitting in 3rd place in the Central Division. With the playoffs looming, it's clear that they're looking to add some veteran depth to their blue line, and Johnson could be just the player they need.
While it remains to be seen how much of an impact Johnson will have on the Avalanche's playoff push, it's clear that the team is making a strong push to go deep into the postseason.
