Derek Forbort, 31, skipped a team meeting ahead of a game against the Seattle Kraken, leading Boston coach Jim Montgomery to bench him again for Thursday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Analyst Jimmy Murphy believes Forbort's time in Boston is coming to an end.
"Given his recent play and now this, I wouldn't be surprised to see Forbort on a new team by the March 8, 3 p.m. ET NHL Trade Deadline."
Forbort has struggled this season, tallying just four assists in 34 games. CBS Sports described him as being "in coach Jim Montgomery's dog house" due to his poor play and missed meeting.
In addition to his performance issues, Forbort has faced injuries in recent years, causing him to miss several games. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season after carrying a $3 million cap hit for the past three years.
