NHL Insider Frank Seravalli suggests a significant trade could happen before the 2024 Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers begins.
With the final just days away, other NHL teams are also making big moves. One such team is the Carolina Hurricanes, who are reportedly looking to trade 25-year-old forward Martin Necas.
In his latest report on Daily Faceoff, Seravalli says:
"I wouldn't be shocked to see Marty Necas dealt before Game 1 of the Cup Final on Saturday."
Necas is a restricted free agent and is expected to receive a raise from his current $3 million annual salary. However, the Hurricanes are keen on signing free agents Jake Guentzel and Seth Jarvis, which could leave little room for Necas's new contract.
"The Carolina Hurricanes have a lot to figure out this offseason, one of which is decisions on their three big RFAs: Jack Drury, Seth Jarvis and Martin Necas."
Necas finished the 2023-24 season with 24 goals and 53 points. Acquiring him will likely be costly, but it could be worth it in the long run.
"Why aren't any Rangers fans mentioning Martin Necas? He is a natural Center, RFA who wants to be a top line player. He is frustrated in Carolina and may want out. Of course the Rangers would have to trade with Carolina to get his RFA rights but I'm sure it could happen."
This potential trade could be one of the biggest moves of the offseason, significantly impacting the teams involved.
