Penguins and Blackhawks finalize a pre-deadline pending trade

The Pittsburgh Penguins completed a minor trade with the Chicago Blackhawks earlier in the season. Part of the trade included a conditional clause, which has now been finalized.
the deal was centered around depth forward Rem Pitlick. The Penguins acquired Pitlick from the Blackhawks back in January in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft. Its not a blockbuster trade by any means, but NHL general managers are always trying to squeeze value out of every deal.
The Penguins have acquired a conditional seventh-round draft pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Rem Pitlick.
The acquisition of the pick gives the Penguins nine selections in the 2026 NHL Draft.
That being said, the condition in this case was that if Pitlick played in less than 30 games with the Blackhawks this year, the team would keep the pick. As the forward got into just nine games, that condition clearly was not met. Therefor, the Blackhawks will retain their pick in the 2026 draft. The essentially got nine games out of Pitlick for free.
I interrupt the eclipse content to bring you some earthshaking Blackhawks news:
The 2026 7th-round pick the Hawks traded to the Penguins for Rem Pitlick had a condition of Pitlick playing 30 NHL games, per source. He only played nine, so the Hawks will keep the pick after all.
Given that Pitlick had zero points in those nine games and was a -7, the Penguins likely won't be too sad that they didn't end up getting anything in return for him after all.
