In breaking news, Calgary Flames prospect Topi Ronni has officially started his court trial and potentially faces a lengthy prison sentence.

Topi Ronni Facing Decades In Prison As Trial Begins

Ronni, selected by the Flames in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft, is facing criminal charges in his home country of Finland. At the time of the alleged incident, Ronni was a minor, but he is now 19 years old.
The trial is scheduled to take place behind closed doors, and Ronni has not publicly commented on the matter, although he had previously stated his intention to fight for his innocence.
"The last two or so years have been hard waiting for the matter to progress. I trust that the related course of events will be clarified in connection with the trial."

The Calgary Flames have issued a statement regarding their prospect, acknowledging that they became aware of the incident after drafting him. They assert that they take the matter seriously and will allow the legal process to proceed accordingly.
"We became aware of a potential legal issue involving Topi Ronni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL Draft. We take this matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course. We have no further comment at this time."
