Published April 3, 2024 at 2:25 PM

Boone Jenner, captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and his wife Maggie shared heartbreaking news about the stillborn birth of their son, Dawson, in a statement released by the club.

Jenner and his wife expressed their profound grief over the loss of their son, stating that they are speechless and experiencing a pain unlike any they have felt before. Despite their sorrow, they expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be Dawson's parents and eagerly anticipate the day they can hold him again in heaven. They also thanked their loved ones for their support and requested privacy during this challenging time.

"We are at a loss for words. A pain like no other. Our son, Dawson Jenner was stillborn on March 31st, 2024 🕊 While this pain is like nothing we've experienced before, it's also shown us the immense love we have to give.

As heartbroken as we are, we are incredibly grateful to be his parents and look forward to holding him again one day in heaven. We are thankful and feel blessed for the outpouring of love and support from our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy as we navigate this extremely difficult time. 💙

Love, the Jenners."

It remains uncertain whether Jenner will take additional time away from the team after missing Monday's game due to illness.

Jenner, 30, has spent his entire NHL career with the Blue Jackets and was appointed captain three years ago. He represented the team at the All-Star game this season.
