The Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers both saw untimely exits from the playoffs this year, and both teams will be focusing their sights on the offseason. As the draft and free agency approach, Edmonton could be on the verge of losing a forward at the hands of the New York Rangers, who are expected to be very aggressive this offseason.
As we close in on the NHL's free agency period, one name has been heavily linked to the New York Rangers. Edmonton forward Nick Bjugstad is reportedly at the top of their wishlist, and he could be theirs by July 1st.
Bjugstad is a proven bottom-six forward who is responsible defensively and can be shuffled throughout a lineup. If New York is looking for a cheap addition to their bottom six, Bjugstad would be the perfect option.
Bjugstad will almost certainly want a multi-year contract, so if other teams are interested, New York might have to pay up.
