Even NHL legends like Patrick Roy find themselves complying with directives from one of hockey's most formidable figures, the legendary NHL executive Lou Lamoriello.
From day one of the Islanders new era, it was evident that Roy would be expected to adhere to Lamoriello's long-standing rules. These include grooming standards, with a particular emphasis on neat hair and trimmed facial hair.
Patrick Roy, known for his unruly beard, appeared on Sunday with a clean-shaven face, showcasing his compliance with Lamoriello's standards. When questioned about the change, Roy admitted it was a reluctant decision.
Patrick Roy told me that, yes, he had to shave the beard.

Lamoriello surprised the hockey community by firing Islanders head coach Lane Lambert and appointing Patrick Roy as his replacement. This bold decision, bringing in the fiery Roy despite his absence from NHL coaching for a while, doesn't mean Roy gets any special treatment.
Roy and Lamoriello may have seemingly contrasting personalities, but the crafty and experienced Islanders GM likely believes this dynamic will lead to success.
