Tristan Jarry signed a five-year deal last summer, but Pittsburgh Penguins fans are already buzzing about the possibility of the goaltender being traded.

The chatter partly stems from rise of 2022 4th round pick Sergei Mpromising, who had a .930 save percentage in the MHL this year and 2020 second round pick Joel Blomqvist, who sported a .921 save percentage in the AHL this season.
On top of that, it was veteran backup and 28 year-old Alex Nedeljkovic, who anchored Pittsburgh between the pipes as they made their playoff push last season, ultimately falling just short.
It's possible Jarry's $5.375 million cap hit which could attract the Utah Hockey Club, Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres. He's also 29 which means there's still time for him to elevate to a level we haven't seen yet with him.
Next summer, if the Ottawa Senators can't re-sign Linus Ullmark or if things don't work out in Buffalo or Detroit, Jarry could be a great fit for those teams. It's tough to predict which teams will need a goalie at the NHL trade deadline. Injuries, unexpected struggles, or dissatisfaction could create new opportunities, maybe even teams like Colorado or Utah. Dubas is focused on acquiring draft picks and young talent but needs to keep the NHL roster as strong as possible.

It's possible that should Anaheim be interested, we could see a John Gibson for Jarry goaltending swap. The 31 year-old has three more years left on his deal with a $6.4 million cap hit, yet the lesser term is what could entice Pittsburgh here to pull the trigger and create an intermediate window for their homegrown stoppers to finish developing and reach the show.
I really do believe it is the prelude to something else... I do think he's been at least talking to Anaheim about John Gibson. I've also heard Tristan Jarry.
