Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin finds himself in legal trouble as the government has officially frozen his bank account.

Maxime Truman reports that one of Ovechkin's bank accounts in his home country has been frozen due to an unpaid debt of less than $550 to the federal tax department. This isn't just any account, it's his main professional account.
Ovechkin, who has reportedly earned around $140 million in his career according to CapFriendly (not counting his endorsement deals), is making headlines for a surprising reason.
"Championat reports that Alex Ovechkin's professional bank account has been frozen due to a 543 US dollar debt in federal taxes.

It's not a good time to owe money to the government over there, I suppose." - Andrew Zadarnowski
Let's hope this situation gets resolved quickly for Ovechkin. It highlights the current challenges in his home country.
Ovechkin, who has been very quiet on social media for several months, is clearly in a tough spot.
At 38, Ovechkin is under contract with the Washington Capitals for two more seasons at $9.5 million per year. He is aiming to break Wayne Gretzky's record and may move to the KHL afterward, according to many rumors.
