It's always tough to share news like this as a former NHL player who once suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins has tragically passed away.

Playing in the NHL, even for a short time, is a rare and special opportunity. When a former player leaves us too soon, it's never easy to process.
According to the NHL Alumni Association on X, former NHL player Mike Meeker has passed away at the age of 66.
Meeker was drafted 25th overall in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins and went on to play just four games with the team. His career took him to various leagues across North America and Europe, including the NCAA, OHL, AHL, and Sweden.
Meeker is best remembered for his contributions to the community. He was a coach, mentor, and volunteer, using his experiences to guide young athletes and make a positive impact. He truly made his community a better place.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. This is an incredibly difficult time for all those whose lives he touched.
