The NHL is buzzing with news about the Arizona Coyotes possibly relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah for the 2024-25 season.
While there's no official confirmation yet, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman suggests that an announcement could be expected on April 18th, following the Coyotes' last game of the 2023-24 season.
Arizona moving to Utah could shake up the Central and Pacific Divisions
Alongside the relocation talks, there's speculation about a potential league realignment. Adrian Dater of Sportsnet hinted at the possibility that if the Coyotes move, the Colorado Avalanche might also shift to the Pacific Division, joining the new Salt Lake City team. This would potentially lead to the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers moving to the Central Division.
This realignment would primarily serve to optimize travel logistics for the teams involved. It would also place stars like Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche in a highly competitive Pacific Division, alongside teams like the Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, and Los Angeles Kings. However, these changes are currently just rumors and are pending official decisions.
