John Tortorella recently received a two-game suspension for his refusal to leave the bench after being ejected from a game. This incident occurred during a match between the Flyers and the Lightning, where the Flyers fell behind 4-0 early on. Despite being ejected for comments directed at officials, Tortorella chose to remain on the bench, sparking attention on social media where some applauded his defiance against NHL officials.

NHL Thinks Tortorella Set Dangerous Precedent

The NHL's decision to suspend Tortorella for two games was driven by concerns that his actions could set a dangerous precedent. They want to avoid a scenario where coaches openly defy officials decisions.
NHL told PHI that Tortorella set a dangerous precedent by refusing to leave the bench.

But fair to question the handling by the officials - a rookie who struggled dealing with an emotional game and a veteran who felt pressure to take control & (possibly) overreacted.
However, some have questioned whether the officials handled the situation appropriately, suggesting that the rookie official may have struggled with the emotional intensity of the game, while the veteran official may have felt pressured to assert control, potentially leading to an overreaction.
Do you think Tortorella's suspension was too harsh?
