Oilers forward Corey Perry talked about what it takes to win earlier this week before the team played against the Buffalo Sabres. He talked about what it takes to win, putting aside your individual desires as a player.

Perry addresses what it takes to win after eight goal game against Sabres

The Oilers veteran was asked about what winning takes after the team defeated the Buffalo Sabres 8-3 on Thursday. The team lost their previous matchup to the Sabres 3-2 in a shootout earlier this month.
Can't believe I'm saying this about Corey Perry considering I've spent most of my existence as a hockey fan hating his guts, but this is exactly the attitude the team needs. Team first, in all things.

"You check your ego at the door, it doesn't matter where you play or how much you play as long as the team is winning."

Corey Perry speaks about the #Oilers lineup down the stretch as they face Buffalo tonight.
Perry, of course, joined the Oilers earlier this year after the Chicago Blackhawks terminated his contract for an off-ice incident. He has proven to be a valuable piece of the Oilers offense, potting 10 goals and scoring 18 points in 40 games with the team, including a 3rd period tally last night.

The goal was not enough as the Oilers would eventually fall 6-3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, it did showcase his abilities as a leader both on and off the ice. The tally did help makes the game more interesting after Leon Draisaitl added a goal late to make it a 5-3 game. However, Auston Matthews would ice the game with his 58th goal of the season on the empty net.

Perry and the Oilers will look to bounce back quickly as they take on the Ottawa Senators tomorrow. While the game is a second half of a back-to-back, the much easier competition should give the Oilers a good chance to secure two more points.
