In last night's hockey game, the Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues 8-5 in a game that featured a moment of controversy. During the late 2nd period, Ryan Hartman scored a powerplay goal and made contact with Jordan Binnington, causing the St. Louis goalie to react violently.

Binnington jumped up and struck Hartman with his blocker, prompting Marc-Andre Fleury to charge down the ice to confront him. Despite being prevented by officials from reaching Binnington, Fleury's uncharacteristic behavior left many questioning what had caused him to react in such a way.
In post-game interviews, Fleury revealed that Binnington had deliberately hit him below the belt, leading to speculation that Binnington may face disciplinary action for his actions. While goalies are allowed to defend themselves, deliberately striking another player is not acceptable. Some are suggesting that Binnington may finally face the consequences of his actions.
That one was pretty quick. One of the guys said (Binnington) hit them in the nuts, in the nutsack. Can I say nutsack? Then when I saw him throw another one at our guy, that was the time.

I'm not surprised. I've seen Jordan do a few things in his career, that's why I went. I made my decision pretty quick.

The League has subsequently announced that Binnington will be called to a hearing regarding the incident.
