In today's game between the LA Kings and Boston Bruins, Brad Marchand, known for his controversial plays, returned to his questionable tactics late in the third period.
This time, however, his actions seemed to cross a line, potentially leading to a suspension for a blatant elbow to the head of Kings forward Viktor Arvidsson. Surprisingly, despite the severity of the incident, no penalty was called on the play, likely due to the game being in Boston.
In the neutral zone, Marchand clearly targeted Arvidsson and attempted a hit. However, he lost control of his body positioning and extended his arms, resulting in his elbow making direct contact with Arvidsson's face. Arvidsson was visibly affected, requiring dental work on the bench.
Marchand's hit was undeniably high and dirty, prompting scrutiny from the NHL's department of player safety. Notably, Brendan Gallagher of the Canadiens received a five-game suspension for a similar hit on Islanders' defenseman Adam Pelech.
