John Klingberg's situation has been somewhat of a mystery over the last few weeks. There has been a lot of speculation on whether his injury is serious or not. The Maple Leafs are not in a position to take the wait and see approach as they are in desperate need of defensive help and his 4M in cap space is essential to upgrade the back end.

NHL Insiders Reveals Exactly What Is Going On With Klingberg

The Leafs' History of Using LTIR Raises Eyebrows

The Maple Leafs have a history of using the Long Term Injury Reserve for players in decline, as seen in the case of Stéphane Robidas. This practice, known as "Robidas Island," was notably used during their strategy to secure Auston Matthews.

Klingberg's situation is now under similar scrutiny, with questions arising about the Leafs' awareness of his chronic hip issue during his signing. The injury's impact on Klingberg's performance and the Leafs' decision-making process are under debate, as the team urgently seeks to strengthen its defense.

John Klingberg joined the Toronto Maple Leafs with high expectations. However, his performance has been underwhelming, leading to heavy speculation about his future with the Maple Leafs. Klingberg himself acknowledged his struggles:

"I don't feel like I'm moving my feet well. There's stuff to work on for sure."

John Klingberg Has Been Officially Placed On LTIR

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed John Klingberg on LTIR. Frank Seravalli reports his season might be over.

This is obviously a blessing in disguise for the Leafs as it frees up the necessary cap space to make a big trade and perhaps try and lure Patrick Kane to sign in Toronto.

It will be interesting to see what happens going forward.
