The Flyers trade of Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft surprised many fans and there's a lot of speculation and drama surrounding what exactly happened.

Insider Leaks A Major Trade That Would Have Sent Cutter Gauthier To Montreal

It's now revealed that Philadelphia had attempted to move Gauthier before. Rumors suggest the Flyers tried to swap Gauthier for the No. 5 pick at the 2023 NHL Draft, potentially to select David Reinbacher and secure Yaroslav Michkov at No. 7.
I heard a rumor they quietly shopped Gauthier back at the draft, & it was one of the things I was chasing today.

Can now confirm yes, Gauthier was shopped. They tried to swap him for the No. 5 pick, presumably to take David Reinbacher & ensure Michkov got to 7 too. MTL passed.

The Montreal Canadiens reportedly passed on the offer, and the trade eventually happened with Anaheim. Despite losing Gauthier, the Flyers obtained a solid return with Drysdale and a draft pick. The Canadiens stand by their decision and continue to invest in Reinbacher.
Former NHL player Georges Laraque thinks the Montreal Canadiens should have made a better offer for Gauthier.
Do you think Gauthier would be happy to have been traded to the Montreal Canadiens?
