In a recent interview, this NHL insider revealed that there could be potential for NHL Veteran Joe Thorton to make a return to the NHL.

Thorton Could Want to Make A Comeback to the NHL One Day

Joe Thorton hasn't played an NHL game since the 2021-22 season. The 44-year-old future hall-of-fame centerman apparently still wants to play, according to Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro.
"Ferraro crossed paths with his old friend and future Hall-of-Famer, Joe Thornton, a few times over the summer. 'He's on the ice all the time. He never officially retired,' Ferraro remarked.

Careful not to speak on behalf of his friend, Ferraro was asked if he thought Thornton might retire. 'No, I don't,' he replied. 'I don't think he will. I think he's just going to hang around. I think he could still play, though. He buzzes.' Does he want to? 'I can't speak for Jumbo, but I do. Deep down, I feel like he does.' Let's find this man a contract." - Elliotte Friedman

Could Jumbo Joe Make a Comeback?

Joe Thorton, while a household name for NHL fans and a generational centreman during his playing days, would likely have a difficult time making a comeback in today's NHL. He hasn't gotten any game experience for roughly a year, and it's likely his age has only slowed him down more since unofficially retiring.

What's more likely, however, is that Thorton officially announces a retirement, and is hired as player development coach for one of his former NHL teams, as his relationships with players were one of his strong suits in the latter portion of his career.
