Now, some former NHL players are saying that they believe the incident wasn't just a freak accident. Chris Therrien, former NHL defenseman with over 700 games played in the world's best league, has stated that he believes the play was 100% intentional.
Another former NHL defenseman replied to Therrien on X, stopping short of calling it intentional, but noting that is is suspicious.
The incident has sparked a debate in the hockey world about player safety. One thing we can all agree on is that this cannot happen again. One way to prevent history from repeating itself would be to enforce mandatory neck protection in all leagues. The EIHL has already made this rule change which will go into effect December 31st due to anticipated supply chain issues.
