Disturbing Details in Valimaki's Gruesome Injury Has Been Revealed Which Could Have Caused His Death
In November, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Juuso Valimaki faced a scary moment taking a slap shot to the face in Dallas. After being rushed to a local hospital, he endured a lengthy wait in the emergency room, where staff advised him to go to a hotel and return the next day.
Disturbingly, doctors later revealed that following this advice could have resulted in internal bleeding. The NHLPA is investigating the incident.
«We can confirm that the NHL and NHLPA are jointly investigating this matter,» according to an NHLPA spokesperson. The NHL did not offer to comment on the incident.
The hospital's delayed response meant Valimaki received 55 stitches after a five-hour wait, addressing a fractured bone and the loss of three teeth. The Dallas Stars, unaware of his treatment, are cooperating in the investigation.
«The Dallas Stars are aware of the incident involving Arizona Coyotes defenseman Juuso Valimaki and are fully cooperating with the NHL and NHLPA in their investigation,» according to the Dallas Stars. «The team will have no further comment at this time.»
Remarkably, Valimaki returned to play after just two weeks, considering the potential severity of his injuries.
«My eyes, my nose, my big jaw, my throat, everything is fine,» Valimaki had said to PHNX Sports upon his return. «Realistically, it could have been so much worse, so I think that's kind of been the perspective that I've taken: ‘I'm lucky that I'm playing again after two weeks.'»
