The looming suspension facing Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has dominated conversations over the weekend and is expected to continue into the coming week as the hockey world awaits a decision from the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Ryan Reaves Voices Out Regarding The Morgan Rielly Incident
Adding to the discourse, Rielly's teammate, Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves, made notable remarks on Monday regarding the situation. Reaves echoed the support previously expressed by head coach Sheldon Keefe and also had some pointed words for Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig.
"Kids these days, they're playing a different brand of hockey than I'm used to," Reaves remarked. "The code's changed a little bit. The game's changed a lot and it's unfortunate that a kid like that can get away with something like that and one of our best players is going to get suspended."
Reaves didn't hold back, suggesting that Greig would have faced harsher consequences in the past.
"If you rewind to when I came into the league he's probably still laying on the ice," Reaves admitted. "I thought (Morgan Rielly's response) was appropriate. I don't see how a kid that young thinks it's appropriate to do something like that."
